Lets go back tow years to that faithful November night in 2010 when history was unfolding right before our eyes. The first ever black president elected. A man who vowed to reform America from healthcare and bank regulation, to the military and gender discrimination. Oh, did he promise in that epic campaign trail. It looked as if they had reached a milestone in electing such a dynamic african american as Commander in Chief. Countless tears where spilled around the world, including some in the small colony I call home. But suddenly every thing went south for the poor black man. But, what went wrong?
Come January it was all business in the White House under the new democratic administration witch also had control over the House an Senate. There where many challenges ahead. Economy, healthcare, Iraq, Afghanistan, discrimination, and the list goes on and on. The first significant legislation passed by Congress was a bill that provided equal salary protection for women. Making clear that a in the new America there was no room for discrimination. After that they focused on one of the most important peaces of legislation of our times, calling upon tougher bank regulations. There is no denying that the lack of market regulations was the main reason of the economic downfall of 2008. Banks where allowed to borrow substantial amounts of money to people who didn't have the ability to pay for it. Therefore creating a bubble that only needed a tiny needle to make it burst. In the matters of war ideas where taking taken into action. Troops where pulled out of Iraq and reinforcement was sent to Afghanistan. Let us not forget that the polemic “don't ask dot tell” policy is also being challenged in court, in a very bizard way one must say, but none the less whit the intention of repealing it. The most polemic action taken by the Obama administration has definitively been the healthcare reform. After a year of debate, controversy and fierce opposition, Congress approved the most significant healthcare reform in over sixty years making healthcare affordable for poor and middle class americans.
Apparently non of this set well with most of its beneficiaries, most of witch today expressed their dislike of most every policy implemented by the Obama administration by voting for the new House majority of republicans. The thing that frightens me the most is the ferocity with witch republicans have promised to repeal healthcare reform and deregulate the economy. Clearly these folks from the Tea Party, who represent the extreme right of conservative America, are rising to power and its scary how the intend to implement outdated policies that have proven to be as wrong as Marxism.
Today is definitively a frightening day for all of you yanks out there.
For arguments sake I'm not even going to discuss the effect this will have in Puerto Rico nor the backlash this could have for our flaming Governor who has done more campaigning for republicans than good for his country.
